canapost costa brava, a small authentic Catalan village
Canapost costa brava is a lovely little village in the hinterland of the Costa Brava, a few kilometers from the coast. This is not a tourist place, but a visit is required. Located a few kilometers from Peratallada, it includes only a few blocks. The village center has only 12 houses, typical of the architecture of the Empordanet, and hosts dozens of people. But we make the decision to visit Canapost, just to see the village square, where stands the church of Sant Esteve.
The parish church is dedicated to Saint Stephen. It is formed by two juxtaposed buildings, one of which is pre-Romanesque, with trapizoidal apse, and an unfinished tower of 12 th century.
All around, there are ancient graves.
In 2005, a set of 18 sarcophagi were found at the foot of the church of Canapost costa brava . It is dated from the tenth century, according to studies of carbon-14 dating, conducted by Daniel Punsetes.
